Coushatta Youth

Conservation

Initiative

The Coushatta Youth Conservation Initiative (CYCI) is a grant funded youth group project to get the children of all ages from the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana involved in environmental and natural resource topics/activities. Providing the next generation of leaders with tools to succeed is our mission. We expose youth to future career options, skills, and learning opportunities to prevent typically under-served communities from being held back from their full potential. We are encouraging youth to pursue careers that explore land management, resource preservation, ecological sciences, environmental research, and much more.

  • Educational Field Trips

CYCI offers educational trip opportunities for most age ranges to allow youth to personally experience the new topics, whether outdoors or indoors!

  • Workshops

Periodic workshops/activities are offered virtually or in person for youth to stay involved and educated on the reservation. Workshops are dependent on participation and range from wild berry foraging to tribal science fairs!

  • Challenges/Contest

Youth are given the opportunity to join small contest on the reservation or compete in state/national competitions related to env. sciences or natural resources. Our team works directly with youth to help them train and provide any needed resources to succeed.

  • Volunteer Work

From community litter cleanups to statewide volunteer work, we offer it all. We provide the transportation and resources for youth to get involved, build resumes/portfolios, and develop hands-on experience through community service projects.
