Household Hazardous Waste

Proper disposal of household hazardous waste is of utmost importance for the health and well-being of ourselves, our communities, and the environment. Household hazardous waste includes various substances such as batteries, pesticides, cleaning products, paints, and fluorescent bulbs, which can be harmful if not disposed of correctly. When these hazardous materials end up in landfills or are poured down drains and toilets, they pose a risk of contaminating the soil, water sources, and even the air we breathe. Improper disposal can also result in long-term pollutant accumulation, leading to adverse effects on human health, wildlife, and ecosystems. By ensuring the proper disposal of household hazardous waste through designated collection points or recycling programs, we contribute to the protection of our environment and prevent potential harm to ourselves and future generations. It is our responsibility to handle these materials with care, reducing their negative impact and promoting a cleaner, safer world for all.

How to participate

Our program holds an annual household hazardous waste collection day for tribal members and staff. This is a free event to give locals the opportunity to dispose of materials properly. If you have a large amount of materials or the materials are too heavy, please reach out to us and we can schedule a pick-up. Check out Events page regularly for updates on the next Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event.
