How to Recycle Locally

Where Can I Recycle?

As you may know, we run a small-scale recycling program on the Reservation for tribal members and staff to utilize. Our staff offers departmental recycling pick-up for tribal offices and we collect materials everything Thursday. Residents are welcome to drop-off household recycling at our recycling shed near our office as well. We are also in the developmental stages of placing a recycling trailer for residential use in the cul-de-sac behind the Coushatta Police & Fire Department. This trailer will be unlocked during regular office hours 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays, Monday through Friday. The trailer will be locked on holidays or during tribal office closures. Locking the trailer after hours is an unfortunate necessity to discourage illegal dumping activities or improper usage of facilities. Collected materials are transported by our staff to the St. Landry Parish Recycling Center in Eunice & Opelousas.

What Can I Recycle Here?

Our recycling program is able to accept plastic (#1 -6), paper (mail, newspaper, printer paper), cardboard, and aluminum cans.

Please make sure that your recycled plastic is rinsed out/clean. Plastic containers such as milk jugs with leftover milk will spoil, produce a bad smell, and ruin the plastic recycling potential.

To save space in our recycling trailer, please do your best to break down your cardboard boxes.

To keep the program as efficient and low cost as possible, your help is greatly appreciated. We do our best to ensure minimal contamination to our collected materials. We are fortunate to partner with other recycling programs that further sort our materials for us, but please try your best to place the correct material in the correctly labeled bins.
